30 Day Financial Cleanse Day 6: Prioritize Your Spending!

As a reminder this post series is all about getting a handle on your finances! I heard about Personal Capital, a personal finance software company, and their 30 Day Cleanse and decided to take the pledge and encourage my readers to do the same!

Rank all of your discretionary items from most to least important-if you'd rather dine out than shop for clothes your ranking should reflect this.

Day 6 is all about figuring out what is most important to you (and your partner and family). Spending money is highly personal. We all value different things in life and where we choose to spend our money says a great deal about us. You vote with your dollar so it is important to consider where you where and on what you want to spend it on. Tyler and I have realized that dining out and clothes are super, duper low on the priority list. We enjoy cooking more than eating out. We also enjoy gardening and happy and healthy animals. Our finances reflect that. Tyler loves working in his shop. I love working out and running races. Together we enjoy watching movies and shows. Every person and every couple is going to be different and that is okay! You do not need to spend money on something just because someone else is doing it. For example, I frequently decline going to the movies because it is expensive and I can rent the movie later and enjoy my own refreshments at home (plus not have to see the cell phone lights from others or hear their conversations or feel their feet on the back of my seat!).

Stay tuned for Day 7: Calculate Savings!
