Montana & Mother's Day
Tyler, Winston, and I spent last weekend in Northwest Montana visiting family. Tyler and I have been together nearly 6 years and I had never been to my in-laws' house! Every summer we visit them at their cabin on Flathead Lake and have never actually been to their home. Needless to say, this needed to be remedied! So we picked a nice weekend, one that included a brew fest in Missoula, and headed on up!
This was Winston's second road trip. He went to New Meadows when he was 6 weeks old, and sat on my lap the whole time. This trip was quite a bit different. Now that he is 9 months and 70lbs (!!!), my lap was no longer an option. So he had his dog bed in the back of the Subaru and he was a happy camper! He is such a good boy; barely a peep the whole way there and back. We stopped every couple of hours and let him stretch his legs, feed him carrots and apples, and gave him love.
The next day we got in the hot tub, did some exploring around, and then went to the Bison Range. Winston loved all of the sticks around the property and all the new smells. It was fun watching him find new plants and animals that all kept him very occupied.
The Bison Range is a nature preserve that we could drive through and see all of the local wild life. We saw several bison and little calves, elk, deer, antelope, bunnies, and turtles. It was a really nice day to take a drive, see some beautiful animals, and stop for a little picnic.
Later that night we visited with Tyler's sister, Genevieve, and family friend, David and had dinner and a bonfire. It was nice to be able to see people we love and have a really laid back agenda.
The next day I got to go for a hike with my father-in-law and see more of the gorgeous landscape and mountain range. The sky wasn't very clear and we eventually figured out it was likely the fire in Alberta. Still, it was a really nice hike and I am so jealous it is right across from their house!
After the hike we headed to Missoula to enjoy the brew fest. It was a really beautiful day to be outside along the river. It was such a family-friendly and dog-friendly place. Winston and I found a nice patch of grass in the shade and the rest of the family would sample some beer and head over to hang out before they headed back for more. It was the perfect afternoon!
The last full day we were there it was Mother's Day. We spent the day planting some flowers for mommy sweetums, I then read most of a great book, and then we had dinner with more family. It was so nice to see everyone, eat delicious food, share some laughs and make long-lasting memories.
The trip was fast and furious but we sure packed in plenty of fun and down time. Until next time!
